Aji Yellow is a tall variety of chilli that has a strong central stem. It grows to 100-120cm tall and produces fruits that are 7-12cm long by 1.5cm-2cm wide. It crops well with between 50-100 peppers per plant. It does need a little extra support.
The long thin peppers are yellow-green when young with a mild heat and are ideal for pickling. They mature to yellow-orange with a medium heat and are great for pepper sauces like ‘mole’. It begins to produce peppers from August onwards from an early sowing and continues until the first frosts.
It is a perennial variety and can be over-wintered in a frost-free warm location.
'Aji' is a South American word for chilli, and is pronounced 'Ahee' may be this is the sound you make when you eat one.
