Bulgarian Carrot is one of our favourites as it kicks off our ‘chilli fest’ being the earliest of ours to fruit (from July onwards).
It is a fast growing chilli plant that produces lots of 8-10cm long by 2cm wide bright glossy orange fruits that have a mild/medium heat. It is a chunky sturdy plant that’s great in containers and it one of the better varieties for coping with growing outside. Peppers grown outside are not as early to mature or as productive.
Surplus peppers can be pickled and used later in sandwiches and on pizzas.
In its native Hungary, Bulgarian Carrot is called ‘Shipkas’.
